A free crochet axolotl pattern for a pink amigurumi axolotl lying on its tummy with a wide head and a big happy smile. This axolotl plushie is soft pink with a paler belly, rosy cheeks, shiny eyes and three bobbly raspberry gill stalks on each side of its head, plus little legs and a flat tail. It is worked in the round in single crochet with DK yarn and a 2.5 mm hook; popcorn stitches give the gills their feathery texture, the eyes are safety eyes, and the finished axolotl is about 8 cm (3 in) tall and 16 cm (6 in) long. Follow it row by row with stitch counts and turn the interactive 3D model to check where every gill and leg goes.

1 sc ≈ 4 mm wide, 1 round ≈ 3.6 mm tall (10 cm ≈ 25 sc × 28 rounds); yarn about 1.9 mm thick. The gauge sets the size of the toy; crochet tightly so the stuffing does not show.
Continuous spiral rounds. Don't join. Move a stitch marker up every round.
Safety eyes and noses go in before the piece is stuffed and closed (see the pieces above); embroidery is easier before the piece is sewn on.
