A free crochet chick pattern for a little yellow chick peeking out of a cracked eggshell, with a zigzag piece of shell worn as a hat. This amigurumi chick has big shiny eyes, peach cheeks, a tiny orange beak and stubby wings resting on the shell rim, a sweet Easter basket filler or spring gift. It is about 8 cm (3 in) tall in DK yarn with a 2.5 mm hook, worked in the round in single crochet: the eggshell cup and the cap get a zigzag edge of treble shells, the round chick sits inside, and the eyes are 13 mm safety eyes. The page gives the row-by-row pattern with stitch counts and an interactive 3D model to check every piece.

1 sc ≈ 4 mm wide, 1 round ≈ 3.6 mm tall (10 cm ≈ 25 sc × 28 rounds); yarn about 1.9 mm thick. The gauge sets the size of the toy; crochet tightly so the stuffing does not show.
Continuous spiral rounds. Don't join. Move a stitch marker up every round.
Safety eyes and noses go in before the piece is stuffed and closed (see the pieces above); embroidery is easier before the piece is sewn on.
