Watermelon Slice

Safety eyes and noses go in before the piece is stuffed and closed (see the pieces above); embroidery is easier before the piece is sewn on.

• Safety eyes with a printed glint 12 mm (on the slice): between rounds 15 and 16, 8 st apart (count along round 15: about 3.8 st each side of the centre front line).
• Embroidery in brown thread (on the slice), straight stitches through: (in round 17, 1 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's right ) → (between rounds 17 and 18, 0.5 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's right ) → (in round 18, on the centre front line ) → (between rounds 17 and 18, 0.5 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's left ) → (in round 17, 1 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's left ).
• Satin stitch (on the slice) (2, symmetric: the toy's left side is described, the right is its mirror image): in black thread, a oval about 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall, horizontal stitches, turned 30° clockwise (looking at that surface); centred in round 12, 8.5 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's left .
• Satin stitch (on the slice) (2, symmetric: the toy's left side is described, the right is its mirror image): in black thread, a oval about 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall, horizontal stitches, turned 35° anticlockwise (looking at that surface); centred in round 20, 6 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's left .
• Satin stitch (on the slice) (2, symmetric: the toy's left side is described, the right is its mirror image): in black thread, a oval about 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall, horizontal stitches, turned 15° anticlockwise (looking at that surface); centred between rounds 20 and 21, 2.5 st from the centre front line, toward the toy's left .
• Satin stitch (on the slice) (2, symmetric: the toy's left side is described, the right is its mirror image): in black thread, a oval about 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall, horizontal stitches, turned 20° clockwise (looking at that surface); centred in round 13, 4 st from the centre back line, toward the toy's left .
• Satin stitch (on the slice) (2, symmetric: the toy's left side is described, the right is its mirror image): in black thread, a oval about 3 mm wide and 5 mm tall, horizontal stitches, turned 20° anticlockwise (looking at that surface); centred in round 18, 6 st from the centre back line, toward the toy's left.
